Eco-Friendly Golf, Wallet-Friendly Prices
Environmental sensitivity hasn’t always been the rule at golf courses, which require massive amounts of water, fertilizer and pesticides to remain pristinely green. Maintenance practices have progressed mightily in recent years, though, and many courses have cut down their use of precious H2O and harmful chemicals.
LINKSMagazine recently recognized what it calls the“10 Most Eco-Friendly Courses” in the U.S., and the list includes TeeTimes.net member Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero, Fla. Checking in at No. 9, Old Corkscrew uses just 83 of 275 available acres for turfgrass – greatly reducing irrigation needs – while preserving more than 40 acres for conservation purposes. Invasive plants have been removed, native plants added, and the entire property boasts a natural, old-Florida feel.
Old Corkscrew just happens to be a fantastic golf course, too. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the layout offers a stunning array of scenery and challenge, making it an absolute must-play on the state’s west coast.

Olympic-Sized Deals at TeeTimes.net
In choosing Hanse, the selection committee cited the quality of his proposal’s “design characteristics, including accentuation of the natural dune formations and retention of the natural contours of the land.” Hanse is a leading proponent of so-called “minimalist” architecture, and he’s earned praise for the environmental sensitivity of his courses.
If Hanse’s name rings a bell, you must have read last week’s newsletter. It’s been a big couple of weeks for the 48-year-old architect, who was just chosen by new Doral owner Donald Trump to remodel the resort’s TPC Blue Monster (which is hosting the WGC-Cadillac Championship this weekend).Speaking of this weekend, U.S. clocks will spring forward for Daylight Savings Time, otherwise known as “the six months with the most golfable hours.” Book your group at one of our featured foursome, below, or another of the hundreds of great tracks offering discounted rates at TeeTimes.net.

Fabled Doral to Get Trump Treatment; Treat Yourself to Discount Golf
What will the Donald do with Doral?
That’s the $150 million question now that Donald Trump has purchased Miami’s venerable Doral Resort for that very amount. Trump’s latest outlandish outlay lands him a five-course spread that includes the famed TPC Blue Monster, host to next week’s WGC Cadillac Championship and a 50-year fixture on the PGA Tour schedule.
The Blue Monster’s Dick Wilson design has undergone many facelifts over the years, and Trump – surprise! – plans to put his own stamp on it. The encouraging news is that Gil Hanse, a highly respected if underappreciated architect, is Trump’s choice to handle the makeover.
Of course, Doral boasts four other tracks – the Gold,Great White, Jim McLean and Red courses — each a worthwhile play in its own right. The entire golf buffet that is Doral is bookable via TeeTimes.net.

TeeTimes.net Welcomes TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium and Valley Golf Courses
TeeTimes.net Welcomes TPC Sawgrass Stadium and Valley Golf Courses
This one deserves a drum roll.
(Drum roll sound…) Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the newest member of the TeeTimes.net family… (More drum roll…) TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. That’s right, we’re proud to offer discounted tee times on both the Players Stadium Course andDye’s Valley Course at PGA Tour headquarters.
By any measure, the Stadium Course ranks among golf’s most famous venues; even non-golfers recognize its island-green 17th hole. As the site of the annual Players Championship – aka golf’s “fifth major” — the Stadium Course has crowned champions including Fred Couples, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. It currently ranks No. 41 on Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest and is an absolute must-play for any passionate golfer.
The Valley Course, also designed by Pete Dye, would be the main attraction most anywhere else. A little less in-your-face than its famous sibling, the Valley earns plenty of raves in its own right. It’s absolutely worth playing either in tandem with the Stadium Course, or as a stand-alone outing.
Our ever-expanding database features hundreds more top-flight tracks across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe and Africa, so be sure to book your next round at TeeTimes.net.
Below you’ll find this week’s featured foursome, with the weekend’s top deals listed on the left.

Phoenix Golf Gets its Due; TeeTimes.net Delivers the Deals
I know what you’re thinking: “Big deal. Phoenix is one of the most obvious places on earth for a golf vacation.”
Yes and no. As Adler’s article points out, when most people think Phoenix golf, they really mean golf in the northern suburb of Scottsdale. Adler’s task was to stay within the bounds of the city proper – not exactly difficult, but it certainly limits the options.
The moral of the story is, Adler found plenty of top-notch courses within easy reach of the airport and downtown. I’m happy to report that four of these gems offer discounted rates through TeeTimes.net, where you’ll find a database loaded with great tracks – and bargains – across Arizona and beyond.
Golf Digest recommended these four courses inside the Phoenix city limits, and we second their selections:

Prince Course Gets New Crown; TeeTimes.net Still King of Golf Discounts
Robert Trent Jones II, the original designer, filed down some of Princeville’s sharper teeth, reshaping green contours, widening fairways and trimming back overgrown areas to make the course a bit more player-friendly. New grass was installed on the greens, too, and bunkers filled with new sand.
To top it off, the Princeville clubhouse underwent a much-needed refurbishing. All the work should only strengthen the course’s reputation as Hawaii’s best, and one of the country’s finest. It ranks 97th on Golf Digest’s current listing of America’s 100 Greatest.
The Prince Course re-opens March 1, so check back soon for discounted rates at TeeTimes.net.

Tour Golfers Prefer Classics; We’re Partial to Great Values
Golf course rankings are a dime a dozen. Sure, they provide great debate fodder, but most lists are riddled with past-their-prime warhorses or courses with better PR firms than shot values.
Here’s an order of merit, though, that really intrigues us:Golf World’s ranking of the PGA Tour host sites as judged by the men who make a living playing them. The magazine got 81 pros to participate in the anonymous survey, the first to go this in-depth on America’s most famous tracks.
The results are at times predictable, at times surprising, and provide great insight into how the world’s best grade a golf course.
Not much drama at the top, as Augusta National (the Masters) ranked No. 1. Next up was Harbour Town Golf Links (RBC Heritage), followed by Riviera CC(Northern Trust Open), Pebble Beach (AT&T National Pro-Am) and Colonial CC (Crowne Plaza Invitational).
Notice a theme? Yep, Tour pros like their courses old and classic.
The TeeTimes.net database features a pair of current PGA venues: No. 28 TPC Scottsdale (Waste Management Phoenix Open), and No. 32 TPC Blue Monster at Doral (WGC Cadillac Championship). Regardless of how you score, it’s always a blast playing in the footsteps of golf’s greatest.
Check out the entire list, including a slide show of the top 10.
If a round on a Tour-caliber course isn’t in the offing this week, no worries. TeeTimes.net has you covered with huge discounts at fantastic golf facilities across the globe. As always, you’re invited to peruse this week’s spotlight courses, featured below.
Until next week, hit ’em long and straight.

La Costa Renovation Earns Raves; Golf Discounts Always in Style
With golf course construction having slowed to a trickle, renovations of existing tracks are getting more attention than ever – especially when the remodeling involves a high-profile property.
Case in point: The venerable La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif., former host to the PGA Tour’s Tournament of Champions. Its two Dick Wilson-designed courses, the Champions and South, were refurbished by the crack team of Damian Pascuzzo, Jeff Brauer and Steve Pate, earning a spot among LINKSMagazine’s Top 5 Renovations of 2011.
The architects overhauled many of Wilson’s massive fairway bunkers to restore their visual impact, and moved others to ramp up the risk-reward quotient. They also installed a set of “family tees” to attract those traveling with young golfers.
Of course, some things never go out of style – like the great discounts offered at hundreds of award-winning resorts and daily-fee facilities at TeeTimes.net. Check out this week’s featured foursome below.

Knows Great Deals
Without Joe, how would we know where to go?
We’re referring to Joe Passov, aka “Travelin’ Joe,” Golf Magazine’s been-there, played-that course reviewer and senior editor. The affable Passov is quick to offer honest takes on the game’s best-known destinations as well as those hidden gems, and his assessments usually hit the mark.
Recently, for instance, Passov was asked to namethree of Las Vegas’ best affordable golf courses, and he rattled off a trio of our favorites: Angel Park,Coyote Springs and Stallion Mountain. Jackpot!
Passov also scored with an article ranking his top courses, holes and more, listing Las Vegas his No. 1 Bachelor Party Golf Destination; Miami the No. 1 New Year’s Golf Destination; and The Boulders (Carefree, Ariz.) No. 1 for a Couples Trip. Yes, yes and yes.
OK, we’re done with our ode to Joe. Check out this week’s featured courses below, and remember: Always book through TeeTimes.net to get huge discounts on these and hundreds of other great courses.

Tucson, Ariz.
From $120
You might say Phil Mickelson got his professional start at Starr Pass, where he won the Tucson Open as an amateur in 1991. You might also say the resort’s three nines rank among the state’s finest, folding natural elements into 27 holes that trundle through cactus-laden desert at the foot of the Tucson Mountains.

Corona, Calif.
From $40.50
More interested in testing golfers’ minds than their muscles, Ted Robinson designed aesthetically pleasing courses whose strategic elements made them more challenging than meets the eye. Case in point: The Golf Club at Glen Ivy, a visual knockout where playing the proper angles pays off.

Orange Park, Fla.
From $58
Architect Bobby Weed obviously had some fun at Fleming Island. You will, too, thanks to the course’s variety. The front nine is an open, links-flavored affair while the back nine trots through massive pines and native wetlands. Fleming Island offers five sets of tees, the longest of which have hosted U.S. Open qualifying.

Henderson, Nev.
From $30
Legacy’s 10th hole, with its postcard-perfect cluster of grassy card suits, hogs the spotlight, but holes 11 through 13 – the “Devil’s Triangle” – are truly worthy of acclaim. Indeed, the entire course is a jewel. Aside from the 10th, Arthur Hills’ layout is free of frills but packed with enjoyable moments.
