Weather, bargains make SoCal so good
Is there ever a bad time for golf in San Diego?
It’s a rhetorical question, of course, with a resounding answer of NO!
California’s southernmost major city has it all: brilliant weather (average June high temp: 70F), spectacular sea-to-mountains scenery, and a collection of courses to rival any destination in North America.
The bargains aren’t bad, either. TeeTimes.net features discounted rates at 23 facilities in the San Diego area; here are a few of the best deals going.
La Costa Resort & Spa exudes class and history, having hosted big events including the PGA Tour’s Tournament of Champions (now the season-opening SBS Championship). The resort’s North and South courses, both designed by Dick Wilson, are beautiful and occasionally brutish, but easily worth the $100-plus fees. Right now, you can play La Costa at rates discounted by nearly 50%.
Architect Ted Robinson, Jr., whose famous father created many of the West Coast’s most beloved layouts, did his old man proud at Arrowood Golf Course. Set in the gorgeous highlands north of the city, Arrowood delights the senses while presenting subtle challenges to golfers of all abilities. The course’s finishing kick is considered among the area’s best by Southland Golf magazine. June tee times can be had for up to 41% off regular rates.
The Golf Club of California at Fallbrook, formerly a private club, is now open to the public and under new management. The course is a stunner — great views, top-notch conditioning and challenges galore. Denizens of TeeTimes.net have posted raves, calling the Golf Club of California at Fallbrook “fantastic,” “excellent” and “not to miss.” June tee times can be had for 20% below rack rates.
